Siouxsie Sioux, born Janet Susan Ballion in England, is considered an inventor of the post-punk movement in England in the late 1970's. Influenced by punk and glam rockers David Bowie, T. Rex and the Stooges, Sioux formed a band called Siouxsie and the Banshees and adopted a unique blend of punk, goth and fetish styling. In rebelling against mainstream pop culture, Sioux often adopted dramatic and intentionally politically incorrect practices which included wearing an armband with a swastika. Her androgynous styling was also a call to question deeply entrenched gender stereotypes.
